BIO

Sarah Smith is an emerging artist currently based in Milwaukee, WI. Sarah showed remarkable talent at a very young age, and produced stunning freehand portraiture and painting before transitioning into photography. Her work suggests emotion and fantasy, as opposed to logic and reality. It expresses apathy toward the notion of artistic intent -- it does not require complex thought, but rather serves as a distraction from it. The imagery draws inspiration from cinema, literature, sound, fashion, and deep beauty.

A NOTE FROM THE ARTIST

"My story began the first time I picked up a camera and made a black-and-white-plus-tilted-angle-equals-cool-picture of a skinny girl in her underwear, against the backdrop of a creepy dilapidated farm house. That would have been around 2006, age 17. I think I’ve evolved appropriately (and maybe cyclically…) as the years have passed. And I'm moving up. I'm ready for a change of scenery. I can’t say with certainty that I wont hesitate tomorrow, because sometimes a steady pay check sounds appealing and the idea of living in New York City scares the panties off me. But when that happens, I end up watching a movie starring vampires and it makes me think… if that's all it takes, then I can certainly make it. I’ve already graduated from "Nowhere, Iowa" status to "starving and living in a kinda-big city as a post college grad status", and I feel damn proud of that accomplishment. Now I turn to those masters - Avedon, Herb Ritz, David Lynch, Tom Waits - those brilliant dreamers who make me wake up in the morning and think...

...today I'm going to watch an entire season of Mad Men. But someday.... VOGUE."
